The colour yellow

hibou_creations_the-colour-yellow

To me, the colour yellow is the sun. It’s open, warm and brings me hope. I rarely wear plain yellow, unless I’m pairing it with a fabric that has yellow in it. But I do love yellow accessories.

Facts

Yellow is one of the primary colours and it’s located between orange and green on the spectrum of visible light. It’s the lightest hue of the colour spectrum. The word yellow comes from the Old English geolu.

Chakras

In the world of chakras, yellow is the colour associated with the solar plexus chakra. To clarify, the solar plexus chakra is the third of the seven main chakras. It’s located between the navel and the breastbone, about three finger-widths above the navel. This chakra has to do not only with how we digest food, but also with how we “digest” our experiences in life. It is the ‘willpower’ chakra and is associated with happiness. In addition, it’s called the Manipura chakra, which translates to “shining gem”.

Meaning, symbolism & cultures

Yellow is the colour of the mind and the intellect. It is optimistic and cheerful. However it can also suggest impatience, criticism and cowardice. It’s the colour of new ideas, helping us to find new ways of doing things. Yellow helps with decision making as it relates to clarity of thought and ideas, although it can often be impulsive. It also helps activate memory, encourage communication, enhance vision, build confidence, and stimulate the nervous system.

In Japan, yellow is the colour of courage, whereas, in Egypt (or Mexico), it’s the colour of mourning. In China yellow represents wealth, because it is the colour of royalty.

Wearing yellow

Yellow is the perfect colour to wear whenever your spirit needs an uplift. Wearing this colour out into the world makes an affirmation statement.

Yellow and you!

How does yellow make you feel? What does yellow mean to you? What does yellow remind you of? Do you like to wear yellow?
